The power of a cartoon and the dark side of religion

For those that blow off cartoons as a water-down art form, or "for kids". Pay attention to the events that are unfolding outside of our country.

Innocent German men and women are being threatened with death because of a cartoon that appeared in their home country's newspaper.

Islamic Law forbids the depiction of the Prophet Muhammad or any other religious figures. Good or Bad.

A Danish Paper ran a cartoon of the Prophet Muhammad with a bomb for a hat.

A Jordanian paper reprinting the cartoon in outrage, thus outraging the Palestinians.

Palestinian gunmen now roam the Gaza Strip looking for any random German citizen they can punish for this outrage, until they get an apology.

Someone may die because of a ink doodle that offend someone else's religion in a completely different country.

That is the power of a cartoon.

And an example of the idiocy of man.

Comments:
How is it NOT ok to depict religious figures, but have it be ok to kidnap people and hold them at gunpoint?

So lame.

Yeah, it's disgusting. And it's been going on for what...2 weeks now?

Who would've thought that a cartoonist would have the power to shape world events?

Thank you, Islam.

It's disgusting and quite hypocritical behavior.

I'm just waiting for the added outrage over "new" Abu Ghraib photos. It's not gonna be pretty.

Did you guys catch the photo of people dragging Ronald McDonald through the streets? If it weren't in the context of violent protests and arson, it would have been hilarious. Reminded me of Hitler denouncing Mickey Mouse.

I just heard on the news today that there's been a reward offered to whoever kills the Danish artist that drew the one with the bomb hat.

This whole thing makes me wish I lived on the moon.
