21 - SDCC Day 3 continued
Holy crap have I really posted 21 times today? I'm shocked and amazed, my friends. Seriously.
So Friday afternoon held the ONE panel that I absolutely HAD to go to or else the whole trip would have been a waste for me. The Power of the Dark Crystal panel. It may have been a Muppets Henson panel, but they were going to talk about the Dark Crystal sequel.
I'm sad to report that they really didn't tell us much about it that I already didn't know. They didn't even have any concept art to go with it. So I was a little disappointed, but getting to see Genndy Tartakovsky and Brian Froud talk about it was AWESOME and made up for A LOT. Brian Froud is so cute I just wanted to snatch him up and carry him around in my pocket.
Anyway, they also showed up some clips of this Muppet improv show that Henson productions is doing, which was HILARIOUS.
In the above picture, there's a little dog on the right named Piddles, and the dog is wearing a diaper. Tom or Ben will have to remind us of what else the dog did, but I remember it being really funny. Sorry, I have the memory of a goldfish so I'm surprised my recap has been as coherent as it has thus far.
So really the panel was just a pre-pre-production thing to get us Dark Crystal nerds all excited and then sad.
The one funny thing I DO remember, however, was they asked people to get up and ask questions towards the end and someone asked them about a Labyrinth sequel to which they replied there was none planned at this time and that they didn't think David Bowie would be up for another one. Not two people later, someone else asked the SAME QUESTION!
Uh... Hello? Hello? Is this thing on? I think the guy that asked that was too intent on asking the question to even think about what other people were asking. Sadder still, this guy got to ask the LAST question which I'm sure gave all the panelists the impression that we were ALL not paying attention and would, if given the chance, ask equally moronic questions.
AYE...
And I also want to say that I freaking LOVE the Garthims from the original Dark Crystal. They were ALWAYS my favorite things. Except for Fizzgig, who I named one of my cats after...
So anyway, I ran out of time this half hour, but the dinner and drinks story is on its way!

The skeksies are one of the few things I'm truly afraid of. I can't watch the original Dark Crystal - it gives me nightmares.
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory too. *grumbleevillittleorangethingsgrumble*
Hang in there!

Why do I remember some concept sketches and a few concept paintings? I swear I saw them.
And I remember piddles being hilarious, but the only thing that comes to mind is his humping the other puppet's arm.

Yeah, there were some of those, like the Queen Kira one, but I've SEEN all those already, I wanted NEW stuff, dammit.
I think Piddle brainwashed us a bit if that's all YOU can remember too.
